Jessore Science and Technology University started functioning from the 2008-2009 session. It is expected to achieve excellence in higher education, research and development in science and technology. The first batch students of all departments were started from 10 June 2009 in the JSTU campus, located 15 kilometers away from the Jessore city, with 205 students in the following four departments: Computer Science & Engineering (CSE), Environmental Science & Health Management (ESHM), Microbiology (MB) and Fisheries and Marine Bioscience (FMB).

In 2009, JSTU added Nutrition & Food Technology (NFT), Industrial & Production Engineering (IPE), Applied Chemistry & Chemical Engineering, Petroleum & Mining Engineering (PME), Genetic Engineering & Bio-technology (GEBT).

In 2010, Pharmacy was added. In the year of 2011, two new departments, Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) and Physical Education, Sports and Culture, have been launched.
